Main Hall Technical Specification
In the centre of Edinburgh’s seaside, Portobello Town Hall sits on the High Street, accessible by public transport. It’s a Neoclassical style building with roots as a town hall community venue back to 1914. The main hall has fixed sitting in the balcony and a flexible layout on the floor for either seating or standing events.
The venue re opened in 2023 after a long closure and is undergoing a period of technical development
GET IN:
There is access to the hall on both sides of the building. One side has ramp access and one has a small single step. The entrance to the get in areas are accessed over the pavement and through a gate into the Town Hall car parks.
STAGE:
The stage is raked and approximately 8m wide x 8.5m deep.
The stage is raised. Access is either by treads DSL and DSR or from the external corridor and through the mid stage doors.
Please note: There is no level access to the stage.
The stage surface consists of hardwood boards painted black
There are red house tabs operated from a pulley on stage right side.
The back wall is painted black.
There are currently no wings or US cross over on stage although a cross over is possible via the backstage corridor
STAGE POWER:
There are 2 x twin 13a outlets on stage left and 1 x twin 13a outlets on SR. There is also a 32/3 line dropped into a 32/3 to 16/1 distro box on SL.
There also also additional 13a sockets off the front of the stage and in the hall.
LIGHTING:

Please Note: The FOH truss is currently inaccessible so nothing can be added/ amended on that bar.
There is also no dimming in the venue. The rig, with the exception of the Festoon House Lights, is entirely LED
The in house Lighting desk is a FLX
The default operating position is DSL
The town hall does not carry any additional stock of fixtures or cables
Any additional equipment brought in by companies must carry a valid PAT certificate
SOUND:
The in house sound desk is a Behringer Xenyx X1622USB
Basic PA capable of playback with speakers mounted on the balcony front House Left and Right
The town hall does not carry any additional stock of speakers or cables

DRESSING ROOMS:
There are 2 dressing rooms off the back stage corridor with bathrooms and seating with tables and mirrors.
Please Note: There is currently no backstage relay system in the dressing rooms
HALL:
The hall itself is flexible in layout with no fixed seating
The hall measures approximately 17m from back wall to stage and 10m wide
